The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has suspended marketing and
enrollment in Universal American's (UAM) Medicare Advantage and Medicare Advantage
with Prescription Drug plans (HMO, PPO, and PFFS), as of December 5, 2010. This
sanction was imposed because CMS determined that sales agents/brokers misled or
confused beneficiaries or misrepresented information regarding the plan, sales agents/brokers
marketed through unsolicited means of direct contact (i.e. cold calling and door-to-door
solicitation), and engaged in aggressive sales tactics and abusive behavior. Agents
are prohibited from selling UAM Medicare Advantage and Medicare Advantage Prescription
Drug plans after December 4, 2010.
